LONDON, Ont. — The London community is grieving the loss of Dr. Henry William Roukema, a highly respected physician, devoted husband, and cherished father, who passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026, at the age of 67. Dr. Roukema’s passing has left a profound void in the lives of his family, friends, patients, and colleagues, as well as the broader community he served with unwavering dedication.

Born and raised in Ontario, Dr. Roukema devoted his life to medicine and education. After earning his medical degree from the University of Western Ontario, he completed specialized training in neonatal-perinatal medicine before returning to London to provide care at the Children’s Hospital at London Health Sciences Centre. For over 30 years, he guided families through critical moments with compassion, expertise, and empathy, earning widespread respect for his clinical excellence and leadership in neonatal care.

Dr. Roukema also contributed significantly to education and research, serving as Director of Nurseries and Associate Professor at Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry. His work in neonatal transport systems, fetal toxicology, and improving outcomes for vulnerable infants left a lasting mark on perinatal care throughout Southwestern Ontario. A public celebration of Dr. Roukema’s life will take place on Sunday, February 8, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Sunningdale Golf Club in London. The gathering will allow family, friends, patients, and colleagues to honor his legacy, share stories, and reflect on the impact he made. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to Ronald McDonald House Southwestern Ontario or a charity of choice, continuing his commitment to supporting families in need.
