KEOKUK, IA — The Keokuk community is mourning the peaceful passing of Carolle Jeanne Nelson Eidem, 85, who died Monday, January 26, 2026, at New London Specialty Care in New London, Iowa. Her life was celebrated for its warmth, generosity, and devotion to family and friends, leaving an enduring mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Carolle was born on February 19, 1940, in Stanley, North Dakota, to Earl and Lillian (Vahldahl) Nelson. She is survived by her daughter, Joni (Kevin) Crenshaw of Keokuk; grandchildren Bailey (Joe) Donahue of Hamilton, Illinois, and Daniel (Sadie) Crenshaw of Montrose, Iowa; and great-grandchildren Conor, Rhys, Olive, Warren, and Thatcher. She is also survived by her sister Jan (Daryl) Hubbard of Glendale, Arizona, and longtime friend Bonnie Meyers. Carolle was preceded in death by her parents, her former spouses, her son Timothy Eidem, and nephews Scott and Michael Hubbard.
Known for her gentle spirit and welcoming nature, Carolle had a remarkable ability to make everyone around her feel valued and cared for. Family was at the center of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, from quiet everyday moments to special celebrations.
Beyond her family, Carolle found joy in her friendships, including participation in the Red Hat Club, traveling, playing cards, and sharing meals with friends. Her home was known as a place of laughter, warmth, and hospitality, reflecting the generosity and kindness that defined her life. Those who knew her will remember her grace, soft-spoken wisdom, and the countless ways she lifted others through simple acts of love.
After a brave journey with Alzheimer’s Disease, Carolle is now at peace, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, selflessness, and connection. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 30, 2026, at DeJong-Printy Funeral Home, 917 Blondeau Street, Keokuk, with burial at Hickory Grove Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, or Hickory Grove Cemetery Association.
