Authorities in Columbia County are searching for 18-year-old Davonte Taylor of Evans in connection with a shooting that prompted multiple schools to go into lockdown earlier this week.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office said the incident occurred at 500 Commons Drive in Evans, where a victim was shot and later transported to the hospital in critical condition. The shooting took place off school property, but its proximity to nearby campuses led officials to implement precautionary lockdowns while deputies secured the area.
Investigators have identified Taylor as the suspected shooter. According to authorities, he was last seen running from Commons Drive toward Micah Trace, wearing a pink hoodie, white pants, and white shoes at the time he fled the scene.
A heavy law enforcement presence remained in the area as deputies conducted searches and followed up on leads. Officials emphasized that the lockdowns were lifted only after schools were cleared and student safety was confirmed.
The investigation remains active. Anyone with information on Davonte Taylor’s whereabouts or details related to the shooting is urged to contact the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office immediately.
