Nick Rivas Rochester NY Murder-Suicide
GREECE, N.Y. — A quiet residential neighborhood in the town of Greece is reeling after authorities confirmed that a father and his 4-year-old son were found dead in what police are investigating as a murder-suicide.

Greece Police officers responded Monday night to a welfare check at a home on Squareview Lane within the Fetzner Square Apartments & Townhomes complex. Inside the residence, officers discovered two people deceased. The Monroe County Medical Examiner’s Office later determined that both deaths were caused by gunshot wounds.

Police have identified the victims as Father Nick Rivas and his young son, Axel Hernandez. Investigators emphasized that the incident appears isolated and that there is no danger to the public. Due to the sensitive nature of the case and the involvement of a child, authorities initially withheld the victims’ identities out of respect for surviving family members.

“This is an incredibly tragic and heartbreaking situation,” the Greece Police Department said in a statement, adding that the investigation remains ongoing. Officials noted that any additional information will be released only when appropriate and with consideration for the family’s privacy.

As the news spread, Axel’s mother, Alexis Hernandez, shared an emotional tribute honoring her son’s life. She described Axel as her “sweet, perfect, innocent baby” and the center of her world, expressing the immeasurable pain of losing him.

“Being Axel’s mom was the greatest honor of my life,” she wrote. “He was everything to me, and I will carry him with me forever.”

Axel Hernandez was born on May 26, 2021, and died on January 27, 2026. His mother also thanked the community for the overwhelming support and love shown during this devastating time, noting that it will be essential as she and others grieve.

The deaths have left family members, neighbors, and the broader community grappling with shock and sorrow. Authorities say their priority remains completing the investigation with care while ensuring compassion for those affected.
